Member of the People’s Chamber (March 1990); Member of the Brandenburg Parliament (October 1990). Chairman of the Berlin-Brandenburg Subcommittee; Minister of Science, Research and Culture (October 1994-October 1999); Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, Politics and Society (13 October 1999 – present). He is founder member of the SDP/SPD (October 1989). Member of the Executive Committee; Chairman of the SPD in Brandenburg (May 1990–July 2000).
