Jonathan Webber


Ph. D., Social Anthropology, Oxford University, 1979. Professor Webber holds the UNESCO Chair in Jewish and Interfaith Studies at the University of Birmingham. Fellow in Jewish Social Studies, Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, 1984. Hebrew Centre Lecturer in Social Anthropology, Oxford University, 1991. Research Fellow, Wolfson College, Oxford, 1990-1998. Managing editor, journal of the Anthropological Society of Oxford. Member of the executive council of the Institute for Polish Jewish Studies, Oxford, and member of editorial board of Polin: Studies in Polish Jewry. Founder member of the International Auschwitz Council.

Publications include: Ed., Auschwitz: A History in Photographs (1993), Jewish Identities in the New Europe (1994). Numerous scholarly papers on modern Jewish sociology and the Holocaust.
