Ruth Wodak


Ph. D. in Linguistics, Professor of Discourse Studies at Lancaster University since 1/9/2004. Previously Professor at University of Vienna. Director of Wittgenstein Research Center. Research professorship Austrian Academy of Sciences. Co-director of the Austrian National Focal Point (NFP) of the European Monitoring Centre for Racism, Xenophobia and Anti-Semitism. Dr Wodak's current research agenda focus the development of theoretical approaches in discourse studies investigating debate forums in the Internet. She has also been studying public and private discourse in Austria since 1945, with special focus on manifestations of antisemitism and racism towards foreigners.

Publications include: Language, Power and Ideology (1989), Totalitäre Sprachen (with P. Kirsch 1989), Wir sind alle Unschuldige Täter (with Peter Nowak and others 1990), From World War to Waldheim (with David F Good 1999), The Semiotics of Racism. Approaches in Critical Discourse Analysis (with M. Reisigl 2000), The Haider Phenomenon in Austria (with A. Pelinka), in print.
