Marie Gillespie


Ph. D. Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the Open University. Her main research interests focus on the cultural politics of diaspora groups, and issues of nationalism, racism and citizenship.

Publications include: After September 11: Television News and Transnational Audiences, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies (2003), Breaking boundaries and the politics of race' in TV comedy: "Goodness Gracious Me" (2000), Cool and Classy: Style Hierarchies among London Punjabi Youth (1998), Soap viewing, Gossip and Rumour in a Punjabi Town in West London (1993), Technology and Tradition: "Audio-Visual Culture among South Asian Families in London" (1989).
